Most TB cases are caused by  M. tuberculosis , though other mycobacteria, like  Mycobacterium bovis , can occasionally cause the disease. TB primarily affects the lungs but can also impact other parts of the body, such as the brain, kidneys, spine, or lymph nodes. In some cases, multiple areas can be affected simultaneously.
